A Labor Day Weekend in Cabo: Why We Loved Sandos Finisterra

For Labor Day weekend, we traded Texas heat for ocean views, good food and a few wonderfully relaxing days in Cabo San Lucas.

We left on Friday and stayed at Sandos Finisterra, a resort tucked between the dramatic hills of Cabo and the Pacific Ocean. We were hoping for an easy getaway where we could unpack, slow down and enjoy ourselves without constantly making plans.

That is exactly what we found—but what made the trip especially memorable was the staff.

The People Made the Resort

Beautiful resorts are not difficult to find in Cabo. What separates one from another is often how you are treated once you arrive, and the staff at Sandos Finisterra truly impressed us.

From the beginning, we felt genuinely welcomed. The employees were warm, friendly and attentive without making anything feel forced. They remembered what we liked, anticipated what we might need and seemed sincerely interested in making sure we were enjoying our stay.

It was the kind of service that changes the entire atmosphere of a vacation. A friendly greeting at breakfast, someone checking to make sure we had everything we needed by the pool, or a server taking a few extra minutes to talk with us made the resort feel personal.

The staff worked incredibly hard, but they still managed to make every interaction feel relaxed and cheerful. We never felt like we were simply another room number or another group of tourists passing through for the weekend.

That warmth is one of the things I will remember most about Sandos Finisterra.

The Food Was a Wonderful Surprise

Resort food—especially at an all-inclusive—can sometimes be more convenient than memorable. That was not our experience at Sandos Finisterra.

We were genuinely impressed by the food throughout our stay. There was plenty of variety, everything tasted fresh and the meals felt like an enjoyable part of the vacation rather than something we simply fit between other activities.

Breakfast was an easy, leisurely start to the day. Lunches were relaxed, and dinner gave us something to look forward to each evening. Whether we wanted a full meal or something lighter, we always found something we enjoyed.

The service made the dining experience even better. The restaurant staff were attentive, gracious and happy to explain dishes or offer suggestions. We never felt rushed, which allowed us to linger over our meals and enjoy being away from our normal schedules.

Good food always becomes part of my memory of a place, and this trip was no exception.

Here's a few pics of my delicious breakfast! ( I love rice and beans for breakfast!)

A Resort With Two Sides of Cabo

One of the things we loved about Sandos Finisterra was its setting.

The resort rises along the hillside, creating beautiful views and giving the property a sense of separation from the activity of Cabo San Lucas. From different areas of the resort, we could take in the water, rocky landscape and unmistakable Cabo scenery.

It felt peaceful when we wanted to relax, but we were still close enough to the marina and town to feel connected to everything happening nearby.

There was no pressure to fill every hour. We could sit by the pool, enjoy the views, have a long lunch or simply wander around the resort. For a holiday weekend, that slower rhythm was exactly what we needed.

The Pleasure of an Easy Getaway

Not every trip needs a complicated itinerary.

Sometimes the best vacations are the ones where the biggest decisions involve where to eat, which pool to choose and whether it is time for another drink. Our Labor Day trip to Cabo was one of those getaways.

We did not need to rush from one attraction to another. We could wake up without an alarm, take our time over breakfast and allow the day to unfold naturally.

There is a particular kind of luxury in having nowhere else you need to be.

What I Will Remember

I will remember the Pacific views, the colorful food and drinks, and the feeling of having several days when we could simply slow down.

Most of all, I will remember the people.

The employees at Sandos Finisterra made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Their kindness and attention transformed a nice resort stay into a trip we truly loved.

When I think about returning to a hotel or resort, I rarely base that decision only on the room, the pool or the view. I think about how the place made me feel.

Sandos Finisterra made us feel relaxed, cared for and genuinely happy to be there—and that may be the best recommendation I can give.

If You Go

Sandos Finisterra is a great choice for travelers who want an easy Cabo getaway with beautiful surroundings, enjoyable food and exceptional service.

The resort worked especially well for a long weekend because we could begin relaxing as soon as we arrived. We did not need an elaborate itinerary to enjoy Cabo; the resort itself was a large part of the experience.

My advice is to slow down, try different restaurants, talk to the staff and leave room in your schedule to do absolutely nothing.

Sometimes that is exactly what a vacation should be.
